About The Creative Learning Trust

Objects and Powers of the CLT

A summary of the main objects and powers from the Constitution of The Creative Learning Trust (CLT) are given here. We gratefully acknowledge the support of Ms Penny Chapman and Ms Harriet Ainsworth (Bircham Dyson Bell) for producing the necessary documentation to present to the Charities Commission.

Objects

The purposes of the Charity are:

a) the advancement of the education of those who are in need (including children and adults with special educational needs and/or within multicultural communities) in any part of the world, in particular but not exclusively in the United Kingdom, central and eastern Europe; and

b) the advancement of the education of medical practitioners and other healthcare workers in any part of the world, in particular but not exclusively in the United Kingdom, central and eastern Europe; particularly but not exclusively by developing and distributing educational materials and resources and by making grants.

Powers

The Charity has specific powers in the pursuit of the objects, including:

a) develop educational materials for children and adults with special educational needs;

b) provide financial support for the education of children and adults with special educational needs;

c) develop modern, creative educational resources, tailored to the specific language, communication and cultural needs of children and adults, including those living within multicultural communities in the UK;

d) develop modern, creative educational resources for speech and language therapists working with multicultural communities;

e) liaise with representatives of communities and organisations involved in the support and education of multicultural communities in the UK to ensure that the resources developed by the CLT are culturally appropriate and tailored to their language needs;

f) administer the Laurie Whelan Education Awards;

g) maintain educational facilities upgraded to date by the Clinical Science and Education Foundation;

h) obtain, manufacture or provide by any means equipment, apparatus or devices appropriate for achieving any of the objects;

i) promote the interchange of professional staff from any part of the world for the purpose of training and continuing professional development and exchanging information and expertise;

j) foster and undertake research into any aspect of the Objects and its work and to disseminate and exchange the results of any such research;

The Creative Learning Trust was entered in the Register of Charities on 8 March, 2017.

The Creative Learning Trust continues the educational work of The Clinical Science Foundation, established at St. Bartholomew’s Hospital in 1990 and The Clinical Science & Education Foundation established in 2001.
